PHI 335

PHILOSOPHY OF LOVE

 100% PLAYER AGREEMENT

I have read and understood the Syllabus and Ground Rules for PHI 335, Philosophy of Love. I have asked whatever questions are necessary to ensure my understanding. I understand that PARTICIPATION IS CUMULATIVE AND BEGINS THE FIRST CLASS MEETING. I understand that failure to comply fully with the Ground Rules or the Syllabus will affect my grade.

I understand that there are no excused absences in PHI 335, including those provided for University sponsored activities in Academic Policy #AA2110.006. I hereby waive my right to appeal absences under that policy.

I understand that: (a) The class begins exactly at the time announced in the University Schedule (Official U.S. Time: www.time.gov/timezone.cgi?Eastern/d/-5/java) and ends approximately three hours later; (b) absences during half time and full time (see Course Schedule) count double – anyone arriving more than five minutes late or leaving early during either half time or full time will be counted absent for the entire class; (c) the first class meeting, half time, full time, and last class will continue until we finish the full agenda – they may run longer than the normal class time.

I agree to abide by the requirements and methods of evaluation in the syllabus, and to play by the letter and spirit of the ground rules, including, but not limited to:

Initiating interactions with the instructor during class, after class, or by calling his home, but not before class or during breaks. Staying fifty feet away from the classroom building between 2:30 PM and 5:55 PM unless I am there for official academic business. Practicing the course skills both in and out of class. Honoring the time out signal. Attending every class for the full class session. Being on time. Being seated when class begins. Not leaving class early. Asking for help if I leave before the end of class and it is an immediate emergency.

Sitting as requested and straightening the chairs when class ends. Not eating, drinking, chewing anything, or wearing dark glasses, hats, or other forms of head-cover in the classroom. Not smoking or using any other form of tobacco in the building. Not tape recording class. Throwing no trash, debris, garbage, or litter on the ground or anywhere else, except in the appropriate receptacles, on or off campus, for the entire term, including cigarette butts. Not vandalizing, damaging, disfiguring, marring, or defacing any property anywhere in any manner, including writing on desks and bathroom walls.

Not using intoxicants or mind-altering substances after 2:00 A.M. on the day of our class. Observing the break policy. Observing the visitor policy. Watching the evening (6:30 P.M.) national news once a week (ABC, NBC, OR CBS). Participating in every discussion, exercise, and assignment with the spirit of experimentation and discovery. Acknowledging people for their participation, including myself. Being truthful and kind.

Avoiding Negos. Not wearing a watch. Avoiding Side Shows. Using responsible language. Not being violent in class. Keeping the contents of the course confidential. Maintaining confidentiality of the people in our class. Taking responsibility for my comfort. Communicating any complaints (in class or in life) only to someone who can do something about them. Not receiving complaints that I cannot assist with. Completing the course evaluation as requested.
