Gretchen made a distinction I had not thought of, the gap between the scientific and the creative. Science is methodical and regimented, unable to handle individual innovation. Throughout history, those scientists who dared to dream or imagine were ostracized as unprofessional idealists. So, I have to say that while fine art has a science to it, it is not science. No scientist or science can (or would) create something out of nothing. Science is merely an observer, documenting creation, while fine art is creation itself. So the real question is, which is more important to the human condition: dry analysis or inspired innovation?
