Where I come from, we do not praise Alonso de Ojeda, who “discovered” Aruba for the Spanish Empire. We consider the Indians who lived there for centuries to be the ones who discovered our island. We don’t have a national holiday to celebrate this, but in school it is all we are taught. Columbus is not even in the picture.
