I agree with Catie. I think that Columbus and Vespucci were people who had a lucky break, and took that chance to make something of themselves. I doubt that Columbus had any idea that he would someday become this famous. He probably knew that he was going to recieve some fame, but I doubt he would expect a holiday named after him.
