I would definitely have to agree with Caitlin. I think that the Decameron definitely degrades women. I do not think that it was written to try to improve standards for women or try to make them seem more equal. Everytime punishment for a wrongdoing was discussed it was always what would happen to the woman in the situation. For instance in on the 6th day, 7th story the topic was adultry, and if caught, the woman would be burned alive. What happends to the man, not that I'm complaining about not being burned but all of the consequences discussed in the stories were for the women. I don not see how this was supposed to be liberating or a way to improve standards for women. Does anyone else agree??
