I do not believe Petrarch was a revolutionary, and I do not think he was all that weird. Normal people have secret obsessions, and find ways of releasing their emotions. Normal people experience loss and regret, feeling sadness, happiness, and everything in between. The real differences I see between Petrarch and everyone else are in the minor details that came together. His birth into circles of power gave him an automatic advantage, while his family and education made him familiar with poetry and philosophy. Petrarch was a an ordinary man in an extraordinary situation, and that is all.
