I think it was worth it to Achilles to get the new armor. He was always known by his armor that is how the others would know that the big bad Achilles was coming after you. If he did not have the best armor he might not be considered on the the best fighters. When a god makes you a gift you tend to use it just so he or she will not get mad at you and they will help protect you.
