Achilles does love Patroklos to a certain extent. But Achilles love himself more, which causes him only to think of himself when the decision of going to war arises. He wants glory and honor but is too stubborn to fight himself because of his anger toward Agamemnon. He doesn't think at that point of Patroklos as his best friend but rather a device to get him what he wants.
