Although this may seem to show that their relationship isn't strong, I don't believe it to be true. Achilleus won't fight in the battle because of Agamemnon. His pride is too strong, but this doesn't have to do with his friendship with Patroklos. Pride is just very important to their culture. Patroklos is also the one who asks to wear his armor, Achilleus only agrees under certain conditions, which is to also prevent Patrolos from being killed in the war.
