I noticed that in the Illiad, things are repeated over and over again, word for word. For example, when Zeus sends a dream to Agamemnon in the begining, the contents of that dream are repeated at least two times, and Odysseus recites word for word what Agamemnon promised to give Achilleus if he gave in and fought. Was this a technique used by the poets who recited the epic in order to be able to remember the story before it was written down by Homer?
