I don't think Odysseus is trying to manipulate Achilleus in any way. Achillues seems very confused and has had a tramatic experience. Odysseus being the father figure looks on towards the future for the best for Achilleus and perhaps realizes Achillues choice to stay angry and get sort of a revenge will just do him harm.
