I don't think that going to his mother for help or crying makes achilles weak. His wife was taken from him by a man that has been getting the best goods from battles that he didn't even fight in. I think that going to his mother was in reality a plan to used the gods as his tool, instead of being a tool. He's just one man against a king with an army so he used the only strategy that he could think of. Even if he wasn't really sad that his wife was taken from him, the tears made his mother putty in his hands.
