I think that the only reason Achilles went to his mother is because he knew he was powerless against Agamemnon. Agamemnon controls all the soldiers and is even higher in command than Achilles. Achilles does not want to cause more fighting so he goes to his mother to have her convince the gods to make Agamemnon do the right thing.
