I think that a man can become a war hero by just returning from a great battle. Due to the mass chaos during fights one is not aware of others locations and actions during the time of the battle. All that is relevent is that this person survived. Factors such as one's physical appearance may assist in what regards the person is held but surviving is enough to give a man the title of a war hero.
