~Tholos~

The Tholos was known as the control center for the Athenian democracy. It was a big circular building where the 50 prytaneis ate their meals. One third of them was expected to be "on call" during their month-long tour of duty and sometimes had to sleep there during emergencies. |

The Tholos had 6
interior columns for support of the roof.
There was a small section on the north side that was the kitchen. It was built around 480 BC. |
