Internet Exercise eBAY

Hoover's Online, The Business Network offers information about companies, industries, people, and products. For researching a company, this site is a good place to start gathering basic information.


1.  

Go to http://www.hoovers.com/ and then use the "Search" scroll bar to select Company. In the next box type eBay and then click on Go. For eBay Inc. click on Capsule.

    a. Read the written description of the company and briefly summarize its contents.
    b. Review the other site information and comment on one item of interest.

Go to the top of the page and click on the Financials tab. Under "Free Financial Information" click on Annual Financials.

    a. For the three most recent years list the amounts reported for "Revenue" and "Total Net Income." Is eBay growing and expanding? Is eBay a profitable company?
    b. For the most recent year list amounts reported for "Total Assets," "Total Liabilities," and "Total (Owner's) Equity." Does the accounting equation hold true? Are assets primarily financed by debt or owner's equity?

Go to the top of the page and click on the Company Capsule tab. Click on the URL for eBay (http://www.ebay.com/ and then click on Browse to explore the world's largest online marketplace. Comment on one item you found of interest.
